Anxiety has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember—quietly shaping my world, whispering doubts, and holding me back in ways I didn’t fully understand. Even as a child, I carried that uneasy weight. But what made it even more confusing was that I also had a wonderful childhood—a loving family, a stable home, and all the opportunities a child could hope for.
And yet, despite all of that, I struggled. I developed Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), which added another layer of complexity to my anxiety. I felt confused, ashamed and guilty—how could I be mentally unwell when, on paper, everything in my life looked fine? I questioned my feelings constantly, often silencing them because they didn’t seem 'valid enough.'
This internal conflict stayed with me for years. I didn’t feel entitled to struggle, and that made it harder to seek help. But mental illness doesn’t discriminate—it can affect anyone, regardless of how 'good' things appear on the outside. And the truth is that suffering doesn’t need justification. Your pain is real, and it’s enough.
The First Step Toward Understanding
My fascination with the human mind, and my desire to help others, led me to become a psychology teacher. I loved sharing knowledge, encouraging self-awareness and showing students how powerful the mind can be. But even with all my education and insight, the anxiety and OCD didn’t go away. I could understand them, even explain them—but I couldn’t release them. That’s when I began to look beyond traditional methods. Not because they weren’t valuable—they absolutely are—but because I sensed something was missing in my own healing. I craved something deeper, something that spoke not just to the intellect but to the whole self: mind, body and soul.
The Turning Point: Finding Complementary Therapies
My journey took a transformative turn when I discovered complementary and holistic therapies. I explored them—initially out of curiosity, but soon with a growing sense of hope. For the first time, I began to feel real relief—not just a temporary pause in symptoms, but a fundamental shift in how I related to my thoughts, my anxiety and myself. These therapies offered something I hadn’t found elsewhere: a sense of peace that felt personal, profound and lasting. It wasn’t just about managing symptoms—it was about healing at a deeper level. My experience was so life-changing that I knew I couldn’t keep it to myself. I felt called to share it.
Why I Chose to Become a Therapist
That journey inspired me to retrain—not just as a practitioner, but as someone who had lived it. I wanted to take everything I had learned, both from my academic background and my personal struggles, and use it to guide others out of anxiety’s grip and into a life of calm, resilience and hope. Becoming a therapist felt like coming home. Now, I support clients with a wide range of challenges—not just anxiety and OCD, but also:
The Power of Support
Throughout this journey, I’ve been incredibly lucky to have the unwavering support of my family, including my husband and son. Their love, patience and belief in me have been a grounding force—especially during the times I doubted myself or questioned whether I could truly heal. They remind me every day that healing doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens in connection. And that’s exactly what I hope to offer my clients: not just techniques or treatments, but a genuine, compassionate connection.
